Grips from Poplar Burl and Turkish Walnut

I wanted to make grips from poplar burl and Turkish walnut for 1851 and 1860 historical black powder revolver reproductions. Turkish walnut stood for itself and it’s price, as it was expected. The much cheaper poplar burl, although being soft and a bit hard to work properly, turned out promising, as well.

Two blanks. One traditional and shamelessly expensive. The other conveniently cheap.

After the blanks are cut in two pieces and shaped to roughly follow the outer grip contour, the middle piece is made.

Glued together.

Shaping, shaping and more shaping.

Et voila! Waiting for proper finish.
